What is Reiki? Reiki is a universal energy which people experience as a warm balancing and harmonising life force energy. It is totally natural, safe to use at all times and both nuturing and empowering.
Reiki originated from Japan at the turn of the 20th century by Mikao Usui. The word Reiki (pronounced ray key) can be split into two components. Rei meaning Universal and Ki (Qi Chi) meaning life force energy. This is energy of the highest and purest form, the very essence that supports and sustains life. Utilizing the methods within the Reiki System, the Reiki Practitioner transfers healing energy to another by the laying on of hands.
What does Reiki do? Reiki usually helps healing of all kinds and relieves pain and acute symptoms very quickly. It also has a positive influence on spiritual growth. Reiki can affect each person differently but it always acts wherever the receiver needs it most. Reiki works on the body as a whole, balancing the emotions, bringing clarity to the mind and reconnecting to the ‘true self’ which in turn impacts on physical well-being.

What can I expect in a Reiki treatment? On arrival I will have a brief conversation with you to discuss any concerns or requests. It is important you feel comfortable and relaxed during your reiki treatment, so I would advise you to wear loose fitting clothes. You will remained fully clothed during the treatment. I normally play soft relaxing music to assist the relaxation response.
You will lay on a padded treatment couch or if you would feel more comfortable, you can be seated. Your comfort and needs are always my main consideration.
Before the session begins, I will scan your energy field by placing my hands over your body. This is know as the “Byonsen Scan”. This will be able to tell me where there are areas within your energy fields that may need healing.
I will then place my hands above or lightly over your “chakras” where the energy flows through which will commence the flow of Reiki. Reiki is an intelligent energy and always goes to where it is needed most whether it is mental, physical and/or spiritual.
Most reiki sessions last for approximately 1 hour although your first appointment will take longer.
How does Reiki feel? Each individual’s experience of reiki is different from each other. However, many clients report that they feel calm, comfortable, relaxed and even tingly during the session. Some experience heat, see bright colours or specific images. The feeling of rest and relaxation will often last for many hours and sometimes days after a treatment.
Reiki will always meet you where you are at that moment and will move you that that place closer to your unique place of balance.
What to do after your Reiki treatment? After your Reiki session, you should feel in a deep state of relaxation. It may take you 15 minutes or so to slowly come back to full awareness where you will be offered a glass of water.
After the treatment, it is very likely that your body will detoxify and you might find that you have to visit the bathroom more frequently. To aid this process, it is therefore important that you continue to drink lots of water over the following few days and if you feel like it, take in more rest and relaxation.
In able to facilitate the healing process it can be helpful to observe your reactions, behaviour, thoughts and feelings. Many clients will notice a reduction in pain, an increase in energy and alertness and will have an overall feeling of well-being.
Disclaimer:
REIKI (also known as "Usui Reiki Ryoho") is a natural method of energy balancing for the purpose of stress reduction and relaxation. It can involve "the laying on of hands". Although this is not required for Reiki to be effective. While it can be used entirely on it's own, it is not meant as a substitute for medical, or psychological, diagnosis and treatment. In fact it can readily compliment other forms of therapy. It is recommended you see a licensed physician or licensed health care professional in order to reach a diagnosis for any physical or psychological ailment you may have.
